At CDD Desk, we believe customer due diligence should be conducted once, properly, without unnecessary repetition. This belief is built on two key principles:
First, CDD should be handled by specialized teams. Regulations are growing increasingly complex. For many institutions it is no longer feasible to maintain all the expertise in-house needed to properly fulfill their gatekeeping tasks.
Second, the results of due diligence should be reusable. Clients should be able to share their verified files with other institutions, which then share in the costs. With the client's consent, reviews and updates should also be shareable. By eliminating unnecessary repetition, the effectiveness of AML efforts is enhanced while the burden is significantly reduced for institutions, their clients, and society as a whole.
Background
CDD Desk is a service and trade name of TrustXchange B.V., a company based in the Netherlands. The company was founded by Nicolaes Tollenaar and Caspar Walhout together with Alen Horvat as technical advisor.
Nicolaes holds a master’s degree in physics and a PhD in law and has 20+ years of experience as a lawyer. Caspar holds a master’s degree in physics and led the engineering team that built the global compliance systems at Adyen. Alen holds a PhD in physics, is a cryptography and digital identity expert and was retained by the European Commission as lead architect on the EBSI project (the European public services blockchain infrastructure).
